Electrocardiogram, ECG, EKG - These three are all the same. It’s a test to get information to diagnose a problem with your heart. You can get an electrocardiogram while lying down and resting or while you’re exercising as part of a stress test. Most medical providers use a 12 lead EKG - meaning there are 12 electrical leads put on your body. It takes about 10 minutes to attach the electrodes and complete the EKG test. But the actual recording takes less than a minute.

Echocardiogram uses sound waves to create pictures of the heart. This is a ultrasound test for the heart. It uses high frequency sound waves to create moving pictures of your heart as it beats. This test can show blood flow through the heart and heart valves. The test usually takes 40 to 60 minutes and some specific types of Echocardiogram tests may take upto 90 minutes.
